“Just wanted to take a few moments to thank you and Film Staff for the help I received in changing professions. I had been involved with theatre most of my life and decided I wanted to change to film and television. I paid my fee, joined, and browsed the job list weekly.

“The first job I landed was an internship for a MTV Europe commercial, but it gave me some set experience and the 1st and 2nd Assistant Director seemed very happy with me, which gave me more confidence. From there I worked on an AFI student film where I was hired as a non-paid office Production Assistant. After the first day of shooting the Producer/Director took me aside (which scared me at first) and said she had made a mistake and under-estimated what I was capable of. The UPM was sick so she moved me to Production Coordinator. By the time I was finished with that shoot she was offering me an Associate Producer credit on the film.

“My third non-paid job was as an office PA for Arclight Productions, once again I was moved to Production Coordinator and this time at the end of the shoot they adjusted the budget and gave me a check at the end of production. I met people on those shoots and from there got more work as a 2nd Assistant Director and Unit Production Manager for a shoot with Sharon Lawrence.

“I finally logged enough hours to get my I.A.T.S.E. card as a Production Coordinator for Local 871.
